Bio
My name is Christina Marit. I live in Rossland B.C. grew up in Glasgow, Scotland, and now I see what an influence my family were. My mother who knit and embroidered, father and grandfather who made great wooden toys. Aunts who made the best birthday and Christmas cakes. So no surprise that I always remember having that urge to “make something”. I loved drawing and later took the challenge of painting. Christmas is my favourite time of year. It brings back memories of early family times. When my children were little I painted cartoon characters on their bedroom walls, and made lots of soft toys. Ten years ago I saw a four foot handcrafted Santa in a store and decided to try one for myself. I have been making them ever since all shapes and sizes, including polymer clay figurines, I start with the faces made from polymer clay and establish the personality, then go on from there. I love choosing the materials colours and textures then the final details the toys and decorations which I also handcraft. the bodies are built from a wire base. I will do custom ordered santas, to size and costume specifications. I now have added a new item to my crafting repertoire, Amigurumi, which is a Japanese word meaning crotched or knitted dolls, which I make with a soft fabric lining to ensure there is no danger of stuffing coming through. Watercolour paintings are my other area and again the favourite subject is people, trying to capture their attitudes, gestures and movement, nostalgia plays an important role in this work. Feel free to contact me by using the contact page. If you are interested in buying one of my works, write me to discuss price and delivery options.
